Mr & Mrs. M, Christchurch
Our clients’ bathroom, although fairly large, was the sole bathroom in the house. With a family of four, it needed to be entirely functional, as well as stylish. The original bathroom had a separate bath and shower, but the shower was on a raised plinth, which is clearly not as practical or safe as most would like it to be. The client felt they wanted a wetroom for ease of cleaning but to still retain a bath for everyone to use.
Naturally, even in a larger space, we opted for Duravit wall hung solutions to still keep the bathroom as clutter free as possible, and with such a busy bathroom, this also enabled it to be easier to clean. A stud wall was built to the WC end of the bathroom which enabled a practical recess to be built above the basin with a full sized mirror mounted into the space. LED down lights added both extra light, but also to create ambiance when the main bathroom light is off and the recessed shelf coupled with the basin furniture already gave an incredible amount of space without adversely impacting on the room. Given the number of people using the room, however, we felt that a full height wall mounted storage unit would be both stunning to look at, as well as entirely practical. Matched to the basin unit, this carries the oak theme right across the bathroom and stands out proudly against the feature wall.
A Bette SuperSteel bath was decided upon, which we tiled in, again making use of lighting to create a real mood in the room when the main lights are off, with lighting being added into a large recess above the bath also; perfect for that relaxing bath time at the end of the day. To bring everything completely up to date, we agreed that the Impey wetroom would look simply stunning as a standalone feature in the corner. The low-key glass shower screen protecting the surroundings from the spray but yet hardly being noticed when you first walk in.
The choice of tiles was absolutely crucial for the design to last and we decided to use our range of naturaleItaliano porcelain tiles to give just the right finish we were looking for. With large format 600/600mm Sienna Bianco tiles to the floor, the illusion of space is created and reduces the amount of grout lines for cleaning. 300/600mm matched tiles continue this look through three walls of the bathroom. The tile is both smooth and light making it perfect for cleaning yet keeping the room light, especially important given there are no windows or natural light in the room. We felt a contrast on the final shower wall would look beautiful and decided to use our Porcelanosa tiles for exactly this effect. Underfloor heating finished the room for warmth and a real sumptuous feeling under foot.
